Over $30,000 in art supplies were donated to 55 schools and more than 8,000 students, grades 3-12 participated in the Jim Thorpe ArtFest on May 10th at City Arts Center in Oklahoma City.
Hobby Lobby and their contributing vendors donated more than 10,000 colored pencils, 3,400 watercolors, 2,100 professional art brushes, 16,000 pieces of poster board, acrylic paints, 400 stretched canvas and more than 15,000 pieces of paper! We are committed to investing in our community, said Steve Seay , Vice President of Construction for Hobby Lobby. The Jim Thorpe Association's involvement with children and art teachers in the Oklahoma City school district is important work, and Hobby Lobby is excited to be a part of it, said Seay.
Students used their creativity and imaginations to interpret this year's theme Oklahoma Centennial 2007. Over 450 pieces of art were selected to be on display during the four-day show at City Arts Center. Those pieces were judged by members of the art community, and the winning pieces received Jim Thorpe medallions, ribbons, trophies, and $100 savings bonds were presented to the overall winner in each category. All students participating in the project received certificates of achievement.
