Keith Jackson was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was an outstanding High School athlete, lettering in track, basketball and football. Due to the influence of Coach Barry Switzer, Jackson chose to play college football for the University of Oklahoma. All American was written all over Jackson as he started every year as a Sooner.
Jackson was consensus All-American in both 1986 and 1987 and was named all-conference from 1985-1987, assisting OU to the national championship in 1985. Used primarily as a blocker in the run-oriented Sooner offense, he caught just 62 passes for 1,470 yards in four seasons, turning those 1,470 yards into 14 touchdowns, averaging a phenomenal 23.7 yards per catch. Jackson was a 4-time all-Big Eight Academic choice and won an NCAA top six award for academics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Jackson was selected 13th in the first round of the 1988 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Jackson quickly demonstrated that he could catch as well as block as he set reception records for Philadelphia during his rookie year. He earned the Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award and was the only rookie on the NFC's Pro Bowl team.
Jackson played nine years in the NFL, with the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers, and was a key member of the Packer's 1996 Super Bowl championship team. He is considered to be one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game, winning Pro Bowl honors six years.
After retiring from football, Jackson created a youth center in Little Rock, Arkansas that helps at-risk students succeed. P.A.R.K. (Positive Atmosphere Reaches Kids) provides after school tutoring, recreation, summer programs, and community service to youth. P.A.R.K. reaches students with low grade point averages, who have been left behind in the public school system and are at risk of dropping out, and forges caring, long-term relationships with them in an effort to help them believe in themselves and hopefully, become college bound.
Keith Jackson has combined his college degree in communications and his professional playing experience to become a broadcast analyst with TNT television for one year, the Oklahoma Sooner football radio network in 1998, Fox Sports Network in 1999 and the Arkansas Razorback Sports Network in 2000. He has also become one of the most dynamic and inspirational speakers in the country.
